Denver, North Carolina

A charming town with a storied history, Denver, NC, was home to the Catawba and Cherokee Indian tribes long before the first Scots-Irish settlement was planted in the 1700s. Denver, once known as “Dry Pond,” has grown alongside Charlotte in the last few decades and plans to widen Route 16 to nearby Hickory is already bolstering development.

Known as the “Denver of the East,” Denver is situated within Lincoln County. The Great Smoky Mountains are only two hours to the west, and even Charlotte-Douglas International Airport is just a short 45-minute drive. About 15,000 people live in Denver but the growth in nearby Charlotte, that number won’t stay low for long.

Denver has dozens of local businesses along its main street, itself playing host to an annual Strawberry Festival. The popular “Denver Dayz” and the Rock Springs Camp Meeting, an annual Christian conference held in the area for over 200 years, are notable annual happenings. The Lincoln Cultural Center, a historical landmark, hosts live theater, concerts, lectures, and art galleries that showcase local and regional art.

The area is growing fast and it’s easier to find houses for sale in Denver than ever before. Neighborhoods like Sailview, Norman Estates, and Smithstone are nearby on the shores of Lake Norman, one of the area’s biggest weekend draws. If you’re looking to be close to the city and the lake for a fraction of the price of houses for sale in Charlotte, Denver may be worth a look!
